Keeping your eyes open at Shugborough NT

This week we made another visit to our local National Trust site of Shugborough. As bookings have to be made in advance, we were lucky to have a beautiful clear day which brought out the start of autumn colour. We also managed to see a few items of interest which most people would pass by. Here is a selection of the photos I took, using a compact camera, on this visit:

A riot of colour in the ‘Dahlia Glasshouse’
The trees are starting to show the start of autumn by changing colour
Looking around, we saw these cyclamen nestling at the base of a (beech?) tree
A closer view of the cyclamen

We noticed one oak tree had some leaves that were very red that contrasted with the green of the rest of the tree. Investigating the cause of this (the branch had broken and was hanging on by a thread) I also saw caterpillars on the branch below

Update: I have been advised (thanks to Steven Cheshire) that this is the caterpillar of the Buff-tip moth as seen here: https://ukmoths.org.uk/species/phalera-bucephala/larva/
