Our first visit to Chatsworth

Last week we made our first visit to the magnificent Chatsworth house and garden – the time was well spent. Although it was an overcast day it was quite pleasant; not too hot to walk around. We first visited the house which exited to the garden. First I will show a couple of photos taken in the house – all handheld using my compact camera – before showing the garden views:

Amazing decorated walls and ceiling
Sculpture of a hare in a quadrangle viewed from through a window

The photo below is of the dining room where a young Princess (later Queen) Victoria had her first formal dinner at the age of 13. I had a very interesting chat with the room attendant about the scientist Henry Cavendish – I think she was quite surprised that someone had heard of him.

Another hare sculpture
Panoramic view across the maze garden – we ate lunch from this spot

All in all, an interesting day.
