Holiday in Yorkshire: Hows Hill near Fountains Abbey

As mentioned in previous posts, we had a short holiday in Yorkshire. We rented one of the National Trust cottages at Hows Hill which isn’t too far from Fountains Abbey. One beautiful evening we explored around the cottage which was at the base of the prominent landmark of Hows Hill. This had a church on the summit and, I read, was a minor medieval pilgrimage site. Here are a selection of photos in both colour and monochrome infra-red:

The church at the top of the hill from the country lane running past
Monochrome Infra-red view from the same location
The church from the farm track leading past the holiday cottages
Infra-red view from the same location
Colour view of the church whilst ascending the hill
View looking roughly north east from the hill with the holiday cottages just visible along the bottom
An infra-red monochrome view looking roughly north from the hillside
An infra-red monochrome panoramic view of the church

Photographs capture just a little of the beauty of the place which, on an evening like this, was almost magical.
