Things have been quiet for the past few weeks on the rat front, until my wife spotted some scraping in the soil by a door into a chicken shed. So, setting up my wildlife camera to see what is going on:
This first photo shows the whole scene captured by the camera with the rat near the centre of the image. It spent most of the time that it was visible looking around – not surprising as we covered its previous night scraping with a brick.
In this view, it is having a closer look – this is a cropped photo:
Judging by the size, it appears to be a young adult – we have had bigger!
It seemed to come and go through the fence to the side of the block-built chicken shed (these are cropped images as well):

Remember, however distasteful you find this, you are never far from a rat!
