Starting with Infra-Red Photography Part 5 – Fog and Mist

For this set of tests I thought I would try out taking photos in the fog and mist to see what turns out as IR is supposed to penetrate fog better than visible light.

This trial was most disappointing…

Full spectrum colour in the fog – no different to any other view
4 different IR wavelengths in the fog – even less can be seen than the colour version
Full spectrum colour in some light mist – the mist still shows
Monochrome version of the above photo
4 different IR wavelengths in the mist – it’s not making any difference
In the mist: the colour version converted to monochrome, The best IR wavelength in monochrome, and a comparison photo with a conventional compact camera

So, not what I expected but an interesting exercise all the same.
