Stay-at-Home: Bird feeder using ‘new’ camera setup.

I have created a ‘new’ setup that enables me to automatically take close-in photos of birds using a bird feeder in the garden. This setup utilises an old compact camera with modified software, an external battery to provide all-day power and a plastic food container to provide a measure of weather proofing. I intend to give more details on the construction of this in a later post.

In the meantime here is a selection from my first sets of photographs. These aren’t perfect – I am still learning how best to use this rig but they do give an indication of its potential:

First day’s attempt – Sparrow
Second Day’s attempt – Sparrow
Second Day’s attempt – 2 Sparrows
Second Day’s attempt – Sparrow
Second Day’s attempt – Common starling – note the iridescence on its shoulders
Second Day’s attempt – Blue tit
Second Day’s attempt – Blue tit
Second Day’s attempt – Blue tit

Yes, I know there are compositional issues and background intrusions, but this was mostly to check the home-made system was working and does what I want. Things will improve with experience!
