This year we have a white foxglove growing next to an apple tree:
The apple tree is a very old one, possibly 50 years old or more. It is in a strawberry bed but, for the last few years I have let the normal pink foxglove grow beside this tree. It seeds itself everywhere but I always let a few grow up by the tree. For some reason, this self-set plant was sporting pure white flowers. I don’t know where this had come from as previously there has been no sign of the white form in the garden.
By contrast, below I show the normal pink form that I photographed a couple of years ago:
One noticeable difference is there were many pink plants growing in previous years but this year only one white plant grew – most strange.
These photos were taken with my standard zoom lens with the camera on a tripod.
