Our onions have done poorly this year:
These are quite a mess this year – due, we think, to the wet weather. I wanted to take this image as a record of what they were like. Rather than just take a shot from a standing position, I wanted to show that they were all affected and show one closer-up. I decided on a low viewpoint with the camera at a angle to the row so that the row diminishes into the distance.
So, I placed the camera on a mini-tripod (free with a magazine), lined it up and set the self-timer to reduce the risk of camera shake (the tripod is cheap plastic and it moves when you press the shutter). I am pleased with the end result – even if I am not pleased with the onions – it showed what I wanted it to show. Later on in the morning I dug them up and left them out to dry.
