Hedgehog, cat and rabbit – nightime in the garden

Last week, for a couple of nights, I set up the wildlife camera in the far end of the garden in the orchard to see what is about – I wasn’t expecting much due to the time of year but the weather has been quite mild. So I was pleased that one night the camera captured a hedgehog scurrying about:

hedgehog-1It appeared several times during the night but, unfortunately, was at the limit of the lighting and camera resolution. But these two photos aren’t too bad considering the cheap equipment used (plans for better equipment are in progress!)

hedgehog - 2During that night a cat wandered past the camera in one direction and later in the night back in the opposite direction. This image is quite poor as it was beyond the main lighting but it does help show what is going on:

rabbit 1A rabbit. We thought it had gone as we had not seen it for several weeks; either escaped somehow or caught by an owl.  Today we discovered a small hole in the mesh under a gate so we suspect this has been the route to the outside world.

In this second photo, the rabbit is looking alert at the camera – I think it may have heard it working :

Note that all these images are crops from part of the original images – these small subjects are at quite a distance from the camera pushing its resolution to the limit.
