This week we had a walk by the Trent and Mersey Canal in Stone. It was a foggy, freezing day – the surface of the canal had started to freeze in a few places. I used this day as an opportunity to get used to my new camera – I have changed systems from Canon to Fuji. Here are a few examples of photos that I took:

This first image is by a canal boat builders and narrowboat hire facility. In the background is the new theatre, bar and taphouse being built by Joules Brewery at Crown Wharf.
A little further along we have a picture of the lower end of a lock with the gates open. I like the figure on the path to the left for it gives scale to the image:

Then we have a photo that I took of the canal starting to ice up. I chose this particular view because of the piece of floating vegetation caught by the ice as seen in the lower right corner:

Finally, this view was taken on the return walk from a bridge crossing the canal. This, I feel, best captures the atmosphere of the day:
