Late July visit to East Ruston Old Vicarage

A couple of week ago I made another visit to these gardens:

It is amazing the difference a bright, sunny day with blue sky makes. There was just so much to photograph – I ended up with 86 images! Above is one of my favourites: it is a view of the greenhouse and patio by the Dutch Garden. I have taken photos of this before from different viewpoints but not from here. I think this works quite well.

In this second one, I am showing some of the amazing colour in this garden. This is the flowers in one of the large potted displays by the orangery. I just love the strong, vibrant colours and the juxtaposition of different shades and tones – really inspiring.

Below is another display of flowers. The yellows and browns are Oxalis (one common name is wood-sorrel). This photo doesn’t do justice to seeing them in the bright sun – they just glowed. These were located a the southern entrance to the new Diamond Jubilee walled Garden.

The amount of plants now in the garden had increased significantly since we last visited during their evening summer party a couple of weeks earlier. To show this I tried a photograph from an elevated position:

walled gardenAs you can see with the plant trays, planting is continuing. This (and other elevated photos) took several goes to get right but I am improving with practice. To take this photo, I have my camera on an extended tripod, set the 10 second self timer, then lift it all into the air by holding the base of the trips legs. I try and point it in the right direction and hope for the best – this one took about 6 goes to get right. I am reasonably satisfied with the results. I can only do this when visiting outside of public hours – tripods are not otherwise permitted.

The full set of these photos can be seen in the EROV Gallery.
