Dragonfly on the lawn

This dragonfly was spotted on our lawn early (ish) one morning at the end of July:

dragonfly on lawnThis is not a perfect image – the stem of the grass on the right is a little distracting and the grass in front of the dragonfly could have been trimmed a little. However, I took a set of ‘catch-it-while-you-can’ photos first as the dragonfly could take off at any moment. When I did go and get some scissors, by the time I had returned it had flown away. Also, these were all hand-held as I didn’t want to chance it flying off whilst I was getting a tripod.

This view I took from above to show the whole outline:

Finally, I like to try and show context to these types of images:

dragonfly contextThis is a wide-angle view showing the position of the dragonfly in the lawn relative to its surroundings. This shows it was on a domestic lawn and not ‘out in the wild’.

These, and other similar images can be seen within the Garden Gallery.
