A beautiful November Sunday afternoon in the garden

Yesterday, although it was a murky, misty start to the day, the sun came out for a glorious warm autumn afternoon. I used this opportunity to take a set of photos around the garden – something I do every month so we can see how the garden develops:

garden from back door panoThis is the view from our back door which shows there is still colour  despite the time of year, although it has been unseasonably warm this year. You can see from the shadows how low the sun was even though the photos were taken from about 2:30 to 3pm.

This shows a display of flowering plants in pots by the edge of the lawn.

display of flowers in potsNormally at this time of the year, all these would be put in the polytunnel, covered up to protect them from the cold. But here we still have flowers in bloom.

I also like to show some detail:

E15_7382t1p1This is hawthorn at the end of the garden, soaking up the yellow rays of the sun which has enhanced those leaves that have turned to yellow, even though some are still bright green.

There are plenty of berries in the garden:

E15_7427t1p1These are the berries of Callicarpa bodinieri. They always make a good show in the autumn – I just love the colours.
