Rugeley Power Station demolition: #5from7photo

On Sunday, it was the day scheduled for the demolition of the 4 cooling towers at the old Rugeley power station. I went to record the event as a volunteer for the ‘Transforming The Trent Valley’ project. We had previously surveyed a good position to record the event but arrived early as large crowds were expected – in this respect we were not disappointed.

The weather was a bit of a disappointment: Dull and drizzly with the towers shrouded in mist to start with. I had 2 cameras recording video and one doing interval shooting for a ‘Transition Time Lapse’. Below I show 5 of the images from the camera doing the interval shooting:

The 4 cooling towers moments before their collapse
The one on the right has moved the most..
They are all going. It was about this time that we heard the noise of the explosions
Going…
Gone!

Quite a large landscape transformation for the ‘Transforming The Trent Valley Project’. For this project, land next to the site is to be a nature reserve managed by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
