Whitfield Valley Nature Reserve

This is a lovely nature reserve in the middle of urban Stoke-on-Trent. We made our first visit there last month and were pleasantly surprised at the extent of the reserve and the proximity to housing – in fact there were several entrances from the surrounding housing estates. Below is a selection of the photos that I took on the day:

This first image I use to set the scene; a panoramic view of the countryside but with the adjacent housing showing:

A panoramic countryside view of Whitfield Valley Nature Reserve showing some of the adjacent housing
A view of the small lake at the southern end of the reserve with wild flowers in the foreground
A panoramic view of the lake with a swan sleeping by one of the park benches
Moorhen chicks on their nest in the lake
A second panoramic view of the lake with wild flowers and shrubs in the foreground

This reserve was a pleasant surprise – we intend to make further visits.
