My take on last nights Aurora (10th October 2024)

I was alerted to last night’s aurora by my eldest daughter who is a physics teacher. When I first looked there was nothing to see. Going out later I could just discern a faint colour in the sky. So I set my camera up on a tripod and was amazed at the colours showing on the rear screen.

These are two of the results – they have had a little processing in Photoshop:

I also made an animated GIF ‘time-lapse’ from the 5 landscape mode images. Due to the nature of GIF files there is a lot of banding in the images:

I have learned a lot from doing this – I know more for next time…
